A sea shanty from the WIP manuscript, "A Sylvan Tale"

Lyrics by Elise Betz, music/composed/performed by Andre Menegazzo

In my current WIP, A Sylvan Tale, our FMC, Nin, and romantic interest, Darach, have traveled to the Whale Rib Inn in Port Rowan while on their journey. While supping on watery stew and stale ale, a crew of pirates enters the tavern for food, lots of drinking, some games of chance, arm wrestling and singing some songs. This is one of the songs Nin and Darach hear the crew sing.

Sea shanty song - The Unfathomable Barmaid from the novel, A Sylvan Tale

Lyrics:

There once was a lass with a great big chest

That many a head of men did rest

She swung from the ceiling, free and fast

Showing off her legs and vast crevasse

For the price of an ale, one could ride

Like a boat on the waves between her thighs

She rocked and drowned many a sot

In the hole she called her sweet honey pot

So, if you find a beautiful maid to swive

Be careful before you take that ride

Take an anchor to keep from falling in

Or you’ll drown in her foam that tastes like gin.
