Her favorite fanfic ship pairs a precocious young witch and her former belligerent Byronic professor. However, her latest fanfic starts taking on a prescient quality. After Anne is fired from her publishing job and dumped by her apathetic boyfriend, she reluctantly takes a job teaching English at her old high school where her formerly belligerent twelfth grade English teacher, Nate Ghent, still works with whom she antagonized when she was his student. Nate just happens to now bear a striking resemblance to the professor in her fanfics, her romantic ideal. There is one big problem; he still hates her. Anne hopes to find the inspiration to write her own original fiction, mend the past hurts that divides her from Nate, and get over her trust issues that prevent her from seeking her very own happily ever after with him.

In this second half of this duology, following the first book of “Rotten Luck, Romance and Other Perils of Writing,” the story picks up three days later at the arraignment of Brad attempting to murder Anne at the end of the first book. This second half of the duology features a dual POV. Nate explores his own trust issue, finally letting Anne know about his billions when they travel together to New York City and stay with his family when she goes there for a book deal with a publisher and a potential publishing job. But the peril and drama she predicted in her fanfic is not over. An unplanned pregnancy, a quickly arranged wedding, a couple vengeful mothers, and yet more attempts to end Anne’s life get in the way of her and Nate having a simple and drama-free happily ever after.
