Story Street writing contest (99 words)


“You don’t need to finish those,” he said, gently guiding my hand to put the soapy dish back into the cloudy water.

 

“The bills?” I asked, fretting about all the things I have left to do.

 

“They will be taken care of. Just relax,” he assured me.

 

“And Pompom?” I glanced at my feline companion.

 

“She can’t go. Not yet, but she will be fine. She will be loved.” His hand on my shoulder made my legs feel like lead, but also a sense of relief washed over me.

 

I nodded as Death guided me out the kitchen door.
